Runners unite for Boston

Today I wear my favorite race shirt in honor of the tragedy that occurred yesterday at the Boston marathon. It deeply saddens me that something so terrible could happen at a road race. The people who participate in these events are not professional athletes who get any recognition for their training and accomplishment. They don't run this race seeking fame. They run for themselves alone or for a charity they support. The majority of those injured yesterday were spectators waiting for their loved ones to finish the race of their lifetime. I am horrified that that could have been my boys and my husband waiting to watch me finish the race. Sadly, I will never allow them to watch me race at a big event, such as Disney or the Peachtree again. I want them to see me as strong and determined. I want to pass the importance of fitness down to them, but not if their safety is in jeopardy. I will continue to run and not let fear slow me down! I will protect my family from senseless violence. Such a sad thing to have to worry about such things at a family sporting event. Breaks my heart! When will it stop? I wish my boys had the chance to grow up in a safer, more loving world.
